I don't really want to have to explain this too many times.

Severed Heads was formed in 1979 and went on to do many things. I see exciting things placed all the way through the near thirty year history of the band. But many people seem unable to accept anything outside a very small time frame, usually based around their own adolesence. While there is nothing terribly wrong with this, it has had a demoralising & counter productive effect. We tried to tease and educate people out of this attitude by ploys such as:

None were very successful. What was a slight annoyance became over time a complete pain in the arse. Let's take the case of Garry Bradbury, who almost twenty years after he had stopped having any involvement found himself billed as 'ex Severed Heads', as if his entire work after that was not worthwhile. That's insulting and I constantly apologised even though I couldn't do much about it. Let's look at web sites that show Simon Knuckey, who was involved for a mere 2 years out of the thirty, is now deceased and deserved praise on his own behalf. Or the fake Severed Heads MySpace page that was based around a recording from 25 years ago - and had hundreds of 'friends' that had obviously never come to our own web site to find out what had happened in the last few decades.

If you really only were an 80's band, then OK, the revived attention is gratifying. But we started to get revived attention that was completely at odds with any of our own spirit and desire for the new. Simply put - it is not possible to be a creative force past a certain duration. For my own part I define myself by creativity and this shit was killing me.

The final straw was a phone call from a 'fan' that managed to touch every single exploitative (give me for free), 'change-challenged' (only old is good) and passive aggressive (you serve me) chord in a single 5 minute call. That afternoon I resigned.

So what happens is this: Severed Heads stops. The museum can remain, but it's a museum. I might finish up stuff like scanning and keep the old site tidy but it will not be expanded.

Me, I get to live.
